Q: What pieces does this hive come with? A: Metal top cover, inner cover, 10-frame medium honey super, 10-frame deep brood box, queen excluder, entrance reducer, solid bottom plate, window sealing baffle, other accessories (screws, bolts, handles, etc.) Q: Is a beekeeping kit included? A: Sorry, it is not included. Because our price is lower than others and the money saved is enough for you to purchase the suite that suits you. Q: Why is the wax of the beehive surface uneven? A: Our beehives are treated with 100% wax dipping instead of wax coating. Due to the influence of gravity during the wax solidification process, the wax of the frame will be uneven, which is a normal phenomenon. Q: Is this beehive certified? A: The product has passed the North American FDA environmental protection certification and is secure to use.
I'm a newbie at bee keeping and this is my first hive. I do know quality when I see it amd this hive box is very well made. Everything fits together perfectly and has good instructions. For the money this seems like a good starter for bee keeping.
Easy to understand the directions. Very easy to assemble, but it would be nice if they woul tell you that you need small finishing nails for the 30 frames you have to assemble, but otherwise 5 star worthy.
My hive was well manufactured and all came together well. You’ll need a mallet for the body, and you’ll need small nails for the frames. All in I think it’s a fair price for a first foray into amateur beekeeping. I docked a star as it says it’s a complete kit but it doesn’t have a floor, a crown board, or a roof. You’ll need all of those, but they are the easiest to make yourself.
Good customer service but had problems assembling frames
I was able to assemble the boxes and the deep box frames, but not the medium box frames. The grooves on all the side bars were too big to fit into the top and bottom bars. The company sent new bars, but I had the same issue. Then they sent an entirely new set, boxes and all. I haven't assembled them yet, but I'm impressed that they did that. I'll update once I put everything together. Other than the medium box frame issue, I like this hive.
I think a lot of people don't realize that this is a great hive to get into bee-keeping, especially at this price point. Most complaints stem from it's craftsmanship and putting it together. I put it together in about a hour. Really, all you need is wood glue. Because I have a brad nailer I used that in conjunction with the wood glue; but really wasn't necessary. I bought bees wax after the hive was complete. I used it to seal all the tiny crevices; but I used it mostly to seal off the removable 'viewing door'. Personally, it's a novelty and I have zero interest in it. If you want to try your hand at Bee-keeping at a very fair price, buy this hive along with some wood glue. You can always buy more expensive hives later.
This is okay for beginners but a pro would not like it. The wood in the bottom and top board have spaces between them. I think the wood shrank after dipping. I would have been better if the bottom and top was one solid piece of wood not boards side by side. I have to seal them up with wood sealant due to hive beetles and fire ants. The view ports needs Plexiglass recessed like the old summerhawk hives. Bees will seal it up without plexiglass. This is starter hive material.
